Job Purpose/Objective of the Position:

Working in the team of Proteins4Singapore, a comprehensive research programme with renowned scientists of plant and food technology, food chemistry, and business sustainability. Interdisciplinary teams will generate state-of-the-art methods and techniques to ensure a sustainable protein supply in highly urbanized environments.

Your commitment:

Part-time basis: at least 3 to 4 hours consecutively per day and working for at least 3 to 4 days per week. The timing will be decided with the supervisor.

Full-time basis: 5-day week and 8 hours per day.

Job Responsibilities:

This subproject will develop and characterize protein-based materials for new processing applications. One of the major goals will be to characterize plant-based materials that have a potential of structure formation for the purpose of incorporation in food processing techniques like extrusion and food 3D printing. As part of working for this subproject in Proteins4Singapore, the specific responsibilities of the Research Intern would be as follows:

  • Characterize plant-based proteins by material characterization techniques.
  • Establish lab protocols and approaches and tools to characterize the structuring potential for plant-based proteins.
  • Work on protein-based formulations for food processing applications.
  • Develop the understanding to analyse the structure and texture of plant-based proteins.

Project Duration:

  • 3-6 months

Job Requirements/Competencies:

  • Currently enrolled in Diploma or degree in food technology/food processing or food science.
  • Strong skills in English speaking and writing, problem-solving and communication.
  • Good team player, able to in dynamic working environment.
  • Self-motivated and quick learner who is passionate about the latest trends and technologies in food science.
  • Positive attitude and desire to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in report writing.
  • In-depth understanding of lab safety protocols and standard operating procedures for the safe handling of chemicals.
