In 2023, Alessio Tafone joined TUMCREATE as Research Fellow within the project “Singapore's Pathway to Carbon Neutrality – Analysis of New Technologies”.
Alessio Tafone received his Ph.D. in Thermal Engineering from the Energy Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University in 2020. He holds a M.Eng. and B.Eng. degrees (2012 and 2010) in Energy and Nuclear Engineering from the University of Bologna.
Besides his academic activity, Alessio worked for three years (2013 – 2016), first as a proposal engineer at an internationally recognized ORC manufacture (Exergy S.p.A.) and later as energy efficiency specialist and auditor for energy efficiency projects in industrial processes at GSE S.p.a. (Energy Services Manager). Before joining TUMCREATE, Alessio served as Research Fellow at SJ-NTU Corporate Lab within the cryo-polygeneration project.
Alessio’s research interests are in the areas of: a) techno-economic modeling and optimization of thermal energy systems, such as Organic Rankine cycles (ORCs), Heat Pumps, thermal energy storage and Carnot batteries/thermo-mechanical energy storage systems (LAES, CAES, PTES); b) techno-economic assessment of green technologies (CCUS and Hydrogen-based systems) covering production, storage, transportation, dehydrogenation and utilization; and, c) planning, design and operational optimization of decarbonized microgrid and decentralized polygeneration system (DPS).
